More than $3.1 trillion in federal grants were awarded in 2020. While this amount quadrupled since 2018, at least a third were strictly for COVID-19 recovery. Of the over 300,000 grant recipients, there were still 1.0 million more that received rejection notices. Some of those rejections were because the grant application package did not include required primary or secondary documents, weak or lack of local statistical data, or the incorrect placement of documents within the online application in the organization’s Workspace account on grants.gov.
